Before the arrival of the Europeans Alabama was of course populated by the Native American tribes: Albamu, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Koasati, Creek and also some nomadic tribes.

The Spanish explorers arrived at Mobile Bay in 1591 and an explorer, Hernando de Soto came earlier in 1540.

The English claimed the North of the Gulf of Mexico around 1687 started trading across Alabama River Valley.

In 1702 the French took over the Mobile River and made their seat of Government at Fort Louis de la Mobile. However the seat had to be abandoned because of the floods of 1711.

The French occupation ended in 1763, right after the French & Indian War, the British occupied most of the area between Chattahoochee and the Mississippi River, but of course had to abandon it after the American Revolution.

In 1819, Alabama was inducted in as the 22nd state of USA. The local farmers were very poor because and they detracted from the Union after Abraham Lincoln became the President in around 1860.

On January 11, 1861 an ordinance was passed, banning the secession and made Alabama a Confederate Capital.

The Governor, Moore, supported the Confederate War and sent his men to the Northeast to buy arms. In the early part of the War Alabama did not see many casualties, but later almost all the White men who could bear arms were wiped out.

Till the end of 1865 Alabama men kept fighting the battles, many were captured after being wounded bsdlyy.

After the Civil War, under a new plan, a provisional Governor was appointed and made secession null & void and abolished slavery.

Alabama still has lots of heritage sites to see. The buildings include Constitution Hall, the Stephen Neal House, Confectionary Shop, the Stable & Barn House, Clement Clay & Law House.

The Arab Historical Complex is a building that tells you about the life of Arabs from 1880 to 1935 when they used to live over there. The local Organization keeps renovating this building that has 8 quarters.

The Brierfield Ironworks started the work in 1862 and was burned by 1865 by the Union Workers, but was again rebuilt by Thomas Jefferson Peters after the War. Due to stiff competition it was once again closed by

In addition to the remains of the furnace, the Site offers hiking/nature trails, a Camping site, a Country Store, a Museum and Swimming Pool.

A Fort was built back in 1821 to keep attackers away. The famous Mobile Battle took place here and you can see the Battlements and Soldiers Quarters who lived there from 1800 to 1946. Go to the underground tunnels and touch the Cannons used in the Battle.

Tannehill Ironworks was originally built in 1830 and was expanded in 1862 by the new owner, but was destroyed in March 1865 by the Eighth Iowa Cavalry. Today they have 1500 acres vast land for Hiking, Camping and Recreation. Also you can learn a lot about how the furnace used to work at that time.

At present you must see the Birmingham Zoo having 100 acres of woodland with many exotic and endangered animals. There are Cheetahs, Elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Cobras, Rhinos, Wart Hogs and many more. This Park is accessible for handicapped people too. A very welcome site for the whole family.

The Dauphin Sea Lab exhibits include an Aquarium and a dry exhibition of Mobile Battle, Living Marsh & Boardwalk, Sea Pines Trail Mr. Sand Exhibit and lots more.

Picnic facilities can be enjoyed at Water World. It also includes a Triple Flume Water Slide, a Giant Wave Pool, a Magical Kiddie Pool, Gift Shop and lots of other things to do.

Alabama Princess Riverboat offers you a Royal Cruise and Leisurely Lunch on this Boat. You also enjoy the Scenic surroundings of Coosa Rivers. Sightseeing tours are available from May to October. Groups are welcome all year around.

If you want to experience a visit to Space then come to U.S. Space and Rocket Centre. Here you see full size Rockets, the Pathfinder, the Bus tours of NASA, OMNIMax movies, a Moon Rock and the weightlessness of Space in a Space Shuttle. You can also learn about life on other Planets and how they live on a Space Shuttle. The Centre is also the home to Aviation Challenge & U.S. Space Camp.
