O2 airport spa massage in Incredible India nearly killed diplomat

NEW DELHI: In the early hours of April 29 in New Delhi, a foreign diplomat flying out of India decided to treat herself to a head and neck massage at a premium O2 airport spa while she waited for her flight.

Instead to soothe her body and mind massage made her fainted and guess what, Ritesh, managing director of O2, the airport spa, denies the massage had anything to do with the diplomat's ill-health. Welcome to Incredible India.

The diplomat felt "It was rough and strenuous, her head was turned left and then moved backwards," said a colleague who later came to the rescue.

Before she knew it, she had fainted. When she woke, she felt disoriented and vomited several times. She managed to contact her embassy, which rushed help. "It's likely the masseur compressed the carotid artery, which, in turn, temporarily cut off oxygen," said her colleague.

Instead of owning responsibility, Ritesh the managing director of O2 spa claimed that masseur was experienced and this was the first such incident at his spa. However point to note is generally for every one incident reported almost 19 other goes unreported.

This incident highlights the potential dangers of having a massage at a spa or ayurvedic centre anywhere in India. The reason for such dangers is that because there are literally no health guidelines for wellness spas in India.

Interesting fact is that Indian government advertises Incredible India as "the global healthcare destination". According to some estimates, there are 2,300 spas in India and they earn roughly $400 million a year.

There is hardly any formal training institute for masseurs in India, so the tourist has their massage have their own risk.

These kinds of incidents only highlights that this would cripple tourism industry in Incredible India unless Indian government really wakes up and take action.

Tourist duped by Govt approved agency in Incredible India

While no of foreign tourist are increasing in India like never before and govt and business organization associated with tourism are are enjoying the success but nothing has much has been done for the safety of tourist in India.

Not only are the various touts who are looking for cheating foreign tourist in the various tourist places in India but
even govt approved agencies are also not far behind.

Mr Simon Wynn’s was duped by government-approved tour operators. “We just didn't anticipate somebody trying to rip us off,” said Wynn. The nightmare for Simon began at the New Delhi Railway station, where he arrived to board a train to Agra.

One gentleman who appeared to be an official wearing a badge, gave him very sound advice about usually late train in India saying that it was running late or might be cancelled and that he should get in a taxi and go over to Old Delhi Railway Station  where they would pick up a later train and on the way they can pop into a government ticket office to get his tickets changed.

The agency involved is in Connaught Place - Exotic Adventure Tours.
The agency has been a listed tour operator with the Ministry of Tourism for 12 years now  and its name features in the list of approved tour operators on the ministry's website.

At the agency, valid rail passes worth Rs 30,000 were cancelled and Simon was given a taxi for four days for over Rs 60,000.

If this is the way india tour agncy and tout in India  keep working and govt would not take any stern action,
time is not far away when incredible india would be known as cheating India and that tourist would decide to switch to some  other safe destination.
